Cassill on Daytona"We had a good Love's Travel Stops Ford in February in Daytona, and we had a good start to the season in the 500, even with some damage. Love's is back this weekend with a military paint scheme for Independence Day -- it's camouflage and pays tribute to the Special Forces Charitable Trust, an organization that supports U.S. Army Special Forces.
"This race is a great event every year, and we're happy to have Love's on board again. There's a Love's near the track, so everyone should stop there for your fuel and snacks and whatever you need for the race. I'm sure I'll be stopping at least once sometime this weekend. "There's a huge difference between racing at night and racing during the day at Daytona. Even if it's hotter in July, it's the direct sunlight on the track that drives the temperature up for the February race. We're definitely anticipating a lot of handling to come into play this week." No. 34 Love's Travel Stops Ford
Started: 31st | Finished: 30th "We had saved our tires for the end and counted on getting some cautions so we could put new tires on. But we didn't get any late cautions, so things didn't quite play out like we'd hoped. But overall we had an OK day with our Love's Travel Stops Ford, made improvements on it and stayed out of trouble." Cassill on Sonoma "I enjoy going to Sonoma. That's a good race track for us. We've got Love's on board, and they've had David Gilliland in their car in the past, and he's a phenomenal road racer, particularly at Sonoma. So I'll have to see what I can learn from our data from what he's done there in the past.
"Sonoma's always been challenging for me. But last year, I felt like we raced significantly better than we qualified. Some of the cars that I couldn't keep up with in practice and qualifying, I was right with them during the race. So, I'll be doing a lot of preparation ahead of time to make sure I'm where I need to be when we get there on Friday." ![]() No. 34 MDS Ford
Started: 36th | Finished: 32nd "It was a challenging weekend for us. We had a wreck in practice on Friday with our primary car and didn't make a qualifying lap. Everybody worked really hard to get the backup ready and get it to a decent set-up to start the race. But we weren't able to get it as competitive as we needed it to be. We will chalk it up to a learning experience and be better next time." Cassill on Michigan"The Michigan track surface has aged some, but it's still a very fast track. It's still very edgy on tires, and the car has to be just right. But it does seem like the track is coming in a little better.
"Michigan is Ford's home track, so we always want to run well in their backyard. I'll be out at the Ford stage on race day talking to fans and doing some Q-and-A, so I encourage everybody to stop over and check out the cool Ford trucks and cars and stick around to ask me a question when I'm on stage." Meet Landon Sunday, June 18, 12:15pm - Ford Performance display (Michigan International Speedway Fan Zone) No. 34 CSX 'Play It Safe' Ford
Started: 34th | Finished: 27th "Our CSX Ford got better later in the race, but we just didn’t have a very good first half of the race. Early on, we had to pit early because it felt like I might have a tire going down, so that kind of messed up our strategy a little bit. And we never had a chance to fight back because we didn't get the cautions we needed in the second half. But there were some scary incidents involving some other cars, some pretty bad wrecks, so we're glad we were able to bring our CSX Ford through it relatively unscathed." Cassill on Pocono"In approaching how to race Pocono Raceway, I feel like you have to be good off of Turn 3. I don’t know how you tune the car for Turn 3 without hurting the other two corners the most. But in my experience at Pocono, the best cars are usually equal in 1 and 2 and they kill you off of Turn 3. So, if you can be good off of Turn 3, you know you’re going to be good on the rest of the track. That's what our CSX team will be focusing on during practice Friday and Saturday.
"I think stage racing at Pocono is going to show some different strategies than we’ve seen all year. I think you’re going to see people make some really odd-looking green-flag pit stops to try to flip the grid after the end of the stage. It should be entertaining."
