Martinsville Post-Race Report

"I put myself in a hole, getting involved in an accident early on and losing a lap. We were really close to getting back on the lead lap several times with Lucky Dogs and wave-arounds, but we just couldn't catch the cautions how we wanted. Our TheHouse.com Ford was better the second half of the race, but we just were never on the lead lap to show anything. So, a little disappointing. I like Martinsville and always hope to run well here."

Ragan on Martinsville"Martinsville is such a fun weekend for me. If I had to pick any racetrack on the schedule that I enjoy racing at the most, Martinsville is probably it. You can kind of throw out a lot of your aero platform and your splitter height variation and a lot of things that we work on at mile-and-a-half tracks. It’s still important but not nearly as important as mechanical grip. It’s a more old-fashioned approach of getting your car low, getting it turning well, working on forward drive.

"I feel like I can help with the set-up there, and I understand more about what it takes in a racecar to go fast. Man, that’s a fun race. I look forward to the ‘Paperclip.’ It’s a great stop on our schedule in the closing four or five races to determine a champion."

"Our TheHouse.com Ford was really good on the short runs. I just feel like we gave up a little speed after 30, 35 laps on tires. With the set-up that we had in the car, I really couldn't run the top groove, and that’s where the fast guys were running. I’m really proud of our team. We had a lucky break and dodged the big accident on the back straightaway. We were fast enough that we were able to hang in there and get back on the lead lap and get a good finish."

Ragan on Kansas"The Goodyear tires have been a little more consistent and grippy as the Kansas track surface has aged over the last couple years. You can run all over the place -- you can run the middle, run the top. It's always a good event. A lot of race fans come out to Kansas. It's always a fun weekend for us.

"It's another mile-and-a-half track, and we finish our season on a mile-and-a-half at Homestead. So, for our Front Row Motorsports team, we want to keep trying to push it as hard as we can to get better on these intermediate tracks. We want to make sure we finish off the season on a high note. We had a top-20 at Kansas in the spring race, but there are always things we can improve on."

"I feel like we survived this one. We had a little bit of luck on our side. Our team did a nice job repairing some of the damage we got in one of the big wrecks. It had been a quiet, low-key race. And then the last 30 laps, everybody raced really hard. I'm proud of our Juice Battery team for fixing me back up so we could come out of it with a top-10

Ragan on Talladega"It takes a combination of everything to survive and finish well at Talladega. You have to have a car with a good engine that pulls well and sucks up well. You’ve got to have a little bit of skill to not pull a bonehead move and tear your racecar up. Luck is required at Talladega as much as anywhere. You could be running first or 40th and can get caught up in an accident if you’re racing around the wrong crowd or just find yourself in a bad spot.

"Talladega is a fun race for me. I do enjoy going down there. And I’ve been on both sides of it there. I’ve been in Victory Lane and I’ve been on the wrecker half-way through the race after an accident. You just have to be aggressive and have fun with it. I think the style of racing that we have at the speedways is fine. I think for four races a year, it’s a different style weekend and a different style race. I think it’s awesome that it’s still in the playoffs. I know those guys that are going to be racing for a transfer spot are going to be on pins and needles. Hopefully we can catch them sleeping a little bit and be aggressive and steal another victory or at least a good run for our Juice Battery team."

"I just got into Turn 1 a little too high. There’s a very fine line where there was a lot of grip and not much grip. Our car was really bouncy and loose. It was a handful for a lot of the day. Our TheHouse.com team made some good adjustments, but we were just trying to hang on. I should have been a little bit more conservative, but we were trying hard to just stay one lap down and I got a little too high and got loose. I thought I was gonna be OK and I just ran back down the track and Danica (Patrick) hit me. She didn’t have anywhere to go."

Ragan on Charlotte"It’s always good to run well at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That’s a home track for a lot of the teams, and we have a lot of friends and family, and a lot of the shop employees that don’t travel with us, they come out to the racetrack and have fun.

"We finished 23rd there in May. Anytime we can qualify and race around that 20th spot is an OK day for us. We want to get into top-15s – that’s where we want to be – but our competition stays very tough throughout the season. Charlotte’s a good gauge. We’ve got a lot of mile-and-a-half tracks to finish the season with, so we want to have a strong showing for our team, for TheHouse.com and for ModSpace, who is joining us again as an associate partner this weekend at Charlotte."

"Our car was really sensitive to the amount of rubber that was on the racetrack. I felt like for 30-, 40- or 50-lap runs, our car was a top-15 or top-20 car. But the longer the run, the more rubber got laid down, and our car lost some speed. Our TheHouse.com team did a good job. It was an improvement from the spring race and, all in all, it was a good day for us."
