DRIVER MICHAEL MCDOWELL:
"Tough day for our Love's Travel Stop Ford Mustang Dark Horse. It was interesting playing the strategy game with fuel milage and tires to see what everyone else was doing. We tried everything, just the cautions didn't quite fall into our favor. Just want to thank all the men and women at Front Row Motorsports, we have only a few races left in the season, so we want to finish strong."
No. 38 gener8tor Ford Mustang Dark Horse:
Todd Gilliland qualified 30th for his sixth career Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gilliland was one of the first takers to come to pit road, pitting for tires and fuel in lockstep with teammate Michael McDowell. Back on track and with 17 laps remaining in Stage 1, Gilliland was collected in an accident with the No. 3, taking damage to the nose of his Ford Mustang Dark horse. The damage did not hinder the 38, and Gilliland finished 34th in Stage 1. Pitting at the stage-break caution, Gilliland went back to work in hopes of picking up spots and salvaging his race. Gilliland was forced to pit before the end of Stage 2 after blowing a tire. Gilliland finished 31st in Stage 2. Gilliland returned to pit road under the stage-break caution for more damage repair from the Stage 1 incident. Gilliland hung around to finish the race, crossing the start / finish line in the 31st position.
Start: 30th
Stage One: 34th
Stage Two: 31st
Race Result: 31st
DRIVER TODD GILLILAND:
"It just wasn't meant to be our weekend. We didn't qualify well, and then the damage and flat tire really stopped any chance we were going to have at putting together a solid weekend. It's frustrating, for sure, but I'm still proud of this 38 team. Hopefully our luck will turn around at Homestead."
