HAMPTON, Ga. (September 7, 2024) - Front Row Motorsports will take the green flag at the Atlanta Motor Speedway with both cars starting in the Top-5. Michael McDowell took the pole in Saturday's qualifying and will have his teammate, Todd Gilliland, line up behind him after Gilliland qualified third for Sunday's event. This is McDowell's fifth career pole, and fifth of the season. For Gilliland, this is his fourth Top-5 qualifying effort of the season.
"It means a whole lot to the team, just that we’re bringing the fastest car to the racetrack and it’s hard to do," said McDowell. "The amount of detail and the amount of hours that go into making a superspeedway car fast, and the fact that we’re doing it better than everyone else right now is a huge testament to what the team is doing and how hard they’re working. Winning tomorrow would be better, but it’s still something to be celebrated because of how hard it is to do at the top level of our sport."
McDowell posted a top speed of 179.261 mph at the 1.5-mile track, earning him his fifth pole of the season. This was his second pole at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, sweeping the qualifying sessions for both of the tracks events. McDowell will lead the field to green in the No. 34 B'laster Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Gilliland will line up behind McDowell in the No. 38 CITGARD Ford Mustang Dark Horse.
"Our cars have been really fast at all the superspeedways and it feels like we actually have cars very, very capable of winning every single superspeedway," said Gilliland. "It always goes in waves, so, to me, even Daytona felt like a little bit of a missed opportunity with how fast my car was. I felt like even when I was in the back I could go to whatever line I felt like and it would really move the line forward and those are hard to come by in these type of races when everyone is so close. I’m excited about it. I think we definitely need to take advantage of it while our cars are this fast."
