SMITH HAS LATE CONTACT, FINISHES P32

Zane Smith started the weekend off strong at the Texas Motor Speedway. The team was second best in practice and started 15th in the SpeedyCash.com 220. Smith wanted to get his SpeedyCash.com Ford F-150 in Speedy Cash Victory Lane.

Smith quickly battled inside the top-10 with a fast F-150. Making up ground throughout the short stage, the SpeedyCash.com Ford finished Stage One, third. An unfortunate equipment interference penalty put the team in the back to start the second stage.

Smith and the team worked hard to get what they needed to finish Stage Two in 12th. In the final stage, while fighting for position in the top-10, Smith made right-side contact with another truck. The damage to the right front was terminal, forcing the team to a 32nd-place finish.

SMITH ON TEXAS:

“We had a top-10 truck all day. Just some unfortunate luck with the contact in the final stage that really ended our day. I'm proud of how hard my Speedy Cash team worked to try and fix it. We will move on to chase the win at Charlotte."

MCDOWELL LEADS WISE-EV CHARGING TEAM WITH ALL-STAR PERFORMANCE

It was an All-Star performance by Michael McDowell and the No. 34 WISE-EV Charging Ford team on Sunday night. The former Daytona 500 champion put FRM in the top-15 for the second consecutive season against the best of the best in the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star main event.

McDowell started the race from 19th and finished the first segment in 20th. Adjustments to the car by crew chief Blake Harris allowed McDowell to race to 13th at the end of segment two. The team then utilized perfect strategy to put McDowell near the front for the end of the third segment. McDowell raced his WISE-EV Charging Ford to fourth.

The final 50-lap segment, McDowell had to pit for tires. He came through the field to beat some of the sports best to finish 15th. McDowell was hoping for a little more, too.

MCDOWELL ON ALL-STAR RACE:

“We had a fast WISE-EV Charging Ford Mustang. We had short run speed after the first segment, but the car was tight on a longer run. Blake and the team put us in position for a top-10. We didn't get that, but we had a solid night and keep having good All-Star finishes. That makes us feel proud and wanting more at the same time."

GILLILAND FINISHES 8TH IN OPEN.

NASCAR Cup Series rookie Todd Gilliland participated in his first All-Star weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 38 First Phase Ford Mustang. Gilliland raced in the All-Star Open with hopes to advance into the All-Star race.

Starting the race in 14th, Gilliland had a car capable of running inside the top-10 if they had better track position. The crew quickly went to work through the first two stages trying to put Gilliland up front.

They did and Gilliland started the final stage inside the top-10. Gilliland raced smart and passed up to eighth. Time ran out before advancing further.

GILLILAND ON THE OPEN:

“It was a cool experience getting to participate in my first All-Star weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the main event, but our First Phase team made us better and faster. We will keep working and get ready for Charlotte."
