Finish Not Allowed After Post-Race Inspection
The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series traveled to the Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Friday and Saturday. Zane Smith and the No. 38 Ambetter Health team showed up in a must-win situation to race for the championship.
Qualifying seventh, Smith and the No. 38 team were ready to give it all they had to advance. Smith got to work early, picking off competitors and making his way into the top-five. Smith finished Stage 1 in fourth.
Smith started Stage 2 with fresh tires and fuel. He raced to fourth before a caution allowed the team to come down pit road for tires and fuel. Back under green, Smith finished the stage in second.
Staying out during the stage-break caution, Smith found himself in the lead with 50 laps remaining. Pitting for tires and fuel under green, Smith beat every other team except for one competitor who pitted early. Smith eventually passed them, but was caught by the 42 truck in the closing laps.
After the race, during inspection, the finish was not allowed due to a broken windshield brace.

“It was everything I had. I am not sure what happened there on the final stop or what. We just got wicked, wicked tight and I don't know why. We had zero front grip and I just couldn’t do anything to defend the 42 there. It is just a bummer. I felt like we had a pretty good day, we just didn’t quite have enough.”
