Zane Smith Finishes 32nd at North Wilkesboro Speedway

Late Race Accident Ends Impressive Run

The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series made its successful return to the North Wilkesboro Speedway Saturday afternoon. The historic track came back to life for the first time since 1996.

For Zane Smith and the No. 38 Boot Barn team, the return came with its own challenge. The team wasn't allowed to qualify after not passing technical inspection. The team had to adjust the rear camber and start at the rear.

The Boot Barn team was fast once the race started. Smith raced up to seventh at the end of Stage 1 after making the most passes in the stage. During Stage 2, Smith raced in the top-five and finished third. The final stage, Smith and the team suffered a speeding penalty with 60 to go. The Boot Barn No. 38 team was racing back to the front before being collected in an accident with 45 laps remaining. The truck had severe damage as the team attempted repairs. However, the damage to the Boot Barn Ford was too much and Smith had to retire from the race.

The Boot Barn team finished 32nd and is third in the regular season championship.

Zane Smith, Driver No. 38 Boot Barn Ford F-150:

"It's a product of being in the back after the penalty. I was trying to maximize our speed off pit road. I'm not sure where I was speeding, but disappointed after a really fast Boot Barn Ford F-150."

The team next races Friday night at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. The race will be on FS1 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
