Zane Smith Finishes Second Friday Night in Las Vegas

Updated: May 9, 2023

Takes Speedco Ford Team to Points Lead After Race

Zane Smith and the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150 team won Stage 1, finished second in the race, and took over the points lead Friday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the 200-mile NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event.

Starting the race in seventh, the team was still waiting on its pit crew when the green flag flew. The crew was delayed due to mechanical issues to their plane earlier in the day. Thus, crew chief Chris Lawson did not want to pit in Stage 1 before the crew arrived. That proved no problem with Smith rocketing to the front and taking the Stage 1 win and the playoff bonus point with it.

The crew arrived to pit Smith at the end of the stage. Smith then raced smart and in the final stage he raced to second behind only race winner Kyle Busch.

With the second-place finish and stage win, Smith took over the regular season points lead. In the playoff standings, Smith now has six playoff points while only a few other drivers have one point.

Zane Smith, Driver No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150:

“I was happy with our day. We had a really good Speedco Ford. I was happy with our Stage win. We got shuffled back there on one of those late race restarts and then just kind of let Kyle (Busch) get away. It is so hard to execute pit road when facing him. I am still happy with our day. Another good points day. We will carry this momentum and go on to the next one.”

The Front Row Motorsports NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series team will next race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Fr8 208 on Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Smith is hungry to win this race for the partner of FRM.
